King Cedar (aka Stephen MaCartney) is blessed with a songwriting gift – as soon as he emerged (most notably with wonderful Bangor-based group Farriers), it was immediately clear that his lyrics and use of chords were a cut above the ordinary. His solo work as King Cedar has seen him develop even further, but the core of melancholic sweetness remains as strong as ever. The use of St. Patrick’s seemed perfect for his performance – the high spaces and extended spaces allowed the richness of his voice to really soar.
